3 Charged in Fatal Shooting Of Deputy U.S. Marshal

LONG COUNTY, GA -- Three suspects have been arrested in connection to the 2016 shooting death of a deputy United States Marshal in southeast Georgia.
Ashley Chavon Roberts, 24, Levy Lewis Jenkins, 34, and Jeremy Lance Lewis, 32, have each been charged with felony murder and felony hindering apprehension or punishment of a criminal, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Thursday.

Carter was wanted for attempted murder of police officers, domestic violence and unlawfully discharging a weapon during a September 2016 incident in Sumter County, South Carolina. He was killed when officers returned fire.
The Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force had tracked Carter to a residence in Allenhurst, a town located in Long County. At the residence where Carter was hiding, law enforcement also made contact and interviewed the three suspects.

As the investigation unfolded, GBI agents uncovered evidence that the trio "committed acts which hindered Carter's capture," the agency added.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Atlantic Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office also assisted in the investigation.
