That's according to Bartow County Coroner Joel Guyton, who said the discovery of Scott Salter's body was made Monday evening.

Salter, 30, a language arts teacher, did not show up for work Monday morning, prompting concerns about his whereabouts.

Guyton said authorities are working to schedule an autopsy with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Crime Lab to determine a cause of death.

Family members reported Salter's disappearance to the Bartow County Sheriff just before 10 a.m. March 7. His car, a white Toyota Avalon, was located at the Cooper Furnace Trail entrance on S.R. 20 Spur. It was the trail where Salter reportedly enjoyed hiking, the sheriff's office said.

The agency, along with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division, Georgia State Patrol Aviation Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, FBI and Cartersville Police Department launched a search Monday afternoon for Salter.

Just after 6 p.m., a Georgia State Patrol helicopter notified ground units of a possible location of the missing man in "a secluded rough terrain area off the trails," the sheriff's office added.

Sheriff's deputies and DNR officers subsequently located the body of Scott Salter.

Preliminary investigation revealed that he had died from sustaining accidental injuries, but the autopsy could reveal additional details about the cause of death.

Cass High School said on its Facebook page that its "thoughts and prayers are with Scott Salter and his family and the Cass High family."

Bartow County Schools Superintendent Dr. John Harper said the system is "deeply saddened by the tragic loss of a talented, beloved teacher, Scott Salter."

"We were fortunate to have Mr. Salter, who spent the entirety of his teaching career at Cass High School, sharing with our students his love of literature," he said. "Our closely-knit community is grieving and will need the support of one another to find peace during this challenging time. We extend our most heartfelt sympathies and prayers for his family and the Cass High School family."
