Ex-Boyfriend Indicted On Assault, Terroristic Threat Charges

Cartersville resident Christopher T. Simmons is accused of threatening to kill his ex-girlfriend inside her Canton apartment.

CANTON, GA -- The Bartow County man accused of threatening to kill his ex-girlfriend inside a Canton apartment unit has been indicted in connection to the case.

A Cherokee County grand jury earlier this month indicted Christopher T. Simmons, a Cartersville resident, on one count of aggravated stalking, burglary in the first degree, two counts of terroristic threats and acts, criminal trespassing and possession of marijuana (less than an ounce) charges.

Simmons, 25, is scheduled to be arraigned in a court hearing set for 9 a.m. Oct. 18 at the Cherokee County Justice Center.

Officers with the Canton Police Department were dispatched around 4 a.m. June 4 to the 300 block of Lakeview Drive in response to a caller saying her ex-boyfriend "had kicked in her apartment door and threatened her with a knife," the agency said.

Police say the caller was with her child in the home at the time of the incident. Officers arrived on the scene, and assessed the damage done to the victim's door as well as her vehicle.

According to warrants issued by the Cherokee County Magistrate Court on the charges, after slashing the victim's tires, Simmons -- armed with a knife -- allegedly kicked in the door to the home. The victim, who fled upstairs, went into a bedroom and locked the door in an effort to get away from Simmons.

At that point, Simmons followed the victim to the bedroom door, banged on the structure, and threatened to shoot her with a gun, the warrant states.

Simmons and the victim used to live together, court documents state.

Simmons, who left the scene before officers arrived, was located behind a building in the area and arrested. During the time of his apprehension, Canton police say he allegedly had marijuana in his pocket.

The Cartersville resident was booked into the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center.
