The proposal calls for replacing the bridge over S.R. 3/U.S. 41 over Old Highway 41, and Bartow County residents interested in learning more about the proposed project are encouraged to attend the meeting and express their thoughts and preferences.
“We would like to hear the viewpoints and concerns of all area residents," says DeWayne Comer, district engineer at the Georgia DOT office in Cartersville.
The proposed plans call for the replacement of the existing bridge on S.R. 3/U.S. 41 over Old Highway 41, located approximately 4 miles south of the city of Adairsville.
Since there is no suitable detour route for S.R. 3 /U.S. 41 at this location, the new bridge will be constructed directly adjacent to the existing bridge on the eastern side of the highway.
This will allow S.R. 3 to remain open during construction, the agency said.
The existing bridge was built in 1949. Georgia DOT inspectors recently concluded that this bridge was structurally deficient and recommended it be replaced.
“The Georgia DOT strongly believes that since this project is intended to serve the people of Bartow County, the ideas and preferences of these people are important,” Comer added. “This meeting will provide the public with an opportunity to review the proposed project and detour route, ask questions, and express their preferences.”
The open house will be informal and the public is invited to drop by anytime during the aforementioned two-hour block.
Written comments on the proposal will be accepted until Monday, April 4 and those can be submitted to:
