Here are the top three stories today in Cartersville:

  1. The Georgia Environmental Finance Authority announced Aug. 23 that Bartow County government received a $25 million Clean Water State Revolving Fund loan. The 20-year loan, which comes with a 0.13% interest rate, will finance construction of a new water pollution control plant. (Subscription: The Daily Tribune)
  2. Governor Brian P. Kemp has announced a distribution of over $62 million in housing initiatives across Georgia focused on fighting homelessness and housing insecurity exacerbated by the negative economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Of that $62 million, Advocates for Bartow's Children will receive just over $2.5 million. (wbhfradio.org)
  3. Sickle cell disease distorts the shape of red blood cells, which causes blockage of blood flow.
