Motorcyclist Dies in Two-Vehicle Collision in Cartersville

Emergency crews say a motorcycle struck a passenger vehicle on S.R. 113 near Friction Drive Sunday afternoon.

CARTERSVILLE, GA -- A two-vehicle collision claimed the life of another person in Bartow County over the weekend.

Crews with Bartow County Emergency Medical Services responded to the crash around 3:45 p.m. Sunday, April 17 to find a motorcycle struck a passenger vehicle, said spokesperson Brad Cothran.

The collision took place when a 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling south on S.R. 113 in a no-passing zone, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

"The motorcycle was traveling over 90 mph (sic) and passing vehicles on the wrong side of the roadway while they were stopped due to traffic," an agency spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe was trying to make a legal U-turn in the roadway due to traffic being re-routed because of another crash when the motorcycle's operator, 37-year-old Alex W. Hubbard of Euharlee, struck the front left of the SUV and was ejected from the bike.

He was transported to Cartersville Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Tahoe, Amy R. Betancourt, 17, of Cartersville, was not injured.

The accident remains under investigation by GSP.
