Here are the top three stories in Cartersville today:
- Eighth-graders earn REACH Georgia Scholarships: Five eighth-graders from Bartow County School System and three from Cartersville Middle School have earned the designation of REACH Georgia Scholars. The students selected for the scholarship every year are chosen based on their grades, attendance and behavior and are nominated by teachers and/or counselors during their seventh-grade year. - Cartersville man sentenced to life +23 years for death: A Cartersville man was sentenced to life without parole for malice murder. He was also sentenced to an additional 23 years on charges of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, abandonment of a dead body and concealing the death of another. The sentencing came four years after the victim, also of Cartersville, was found dead on the side of the road in Butts County. An additional Cartersville man was also charged in connection with the death and pled guilty to charges of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and abandonment of a dead body. - Groundbreaking celebration for new Bartow County distribution center: Lincoln Property Company Southeast will break ground on a new distribution facility, called LakePoint 75. The ceremony, which will take place this coming Thursday at 9:30 a.m., will be marked by words from Lincoln project leads. (Coosa Valley News)
