Theft Suspect Arrested In Cartersville

Brandon Lee Sewell initially tried to evade capture using a bicycle, but was found by police hiding in a patch of kudzu.

CARTERSVILLE, GA -- Cartersville police have arrested a man they believe could be involved in various theft-related cases in the area.

Brandon Lee Sewell has been charged with two counts each of theft by shoplifting, possession of methamphetamine and willful obstruction and one count each of possession of marijuana, possession of drug-related objects, loitering and prowling and possession of tools during the commission of a crime, the police department said Tuesday.

Officers observed a male wearing dark clothing hanging around in the area of closed businesses around 3 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16. He later ditched the bike and ran on foot, but was later discovered hiding in a patch of kudzu, the agency added.

Officers later recovered the bicycle, also believed to have been stolen, and placed Sewell under arrest. Cartersville police detectives believe Sewell is the main subject in other thefts around the city, and other law enforcement agencies suspect he is also behind similar incidents in their jurisdictions.

Jail records show Sewell, a resident of Cartersville, was booked into the facility Aug. 16 and remains held without bond. He was also charged with probation violation.
