Community Corner

A Season of Gratitude

If by chance the rising pollen count, budding trees and longer daylight hours have failed to signal a change in season, one has only to venture into the Southwest Library on Cascade Road to realize that spring is upon us!Β  Throughout the year, the entire Southwest Library staff serves patrons of the library and does a stellar job highlighting calendar observances and special events.

During the month of March, Librarian Teryn Gilliam has been responsible for two inviting and equally informative displays; the first, a tribute to women in celebration of Women’s History Month and the second, a refreshing tribute to spring.

The Southwest branch of the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System actively engages an enormous and appreciative reading and research community which, in reciprocation, takes full advantage of a number of ongoing public forums, a book club, book signings and a number of activities including guest appearances of major authors.Β  Scores of students from elementary school through college visit the library on a regular basis.

As a result of budgetary restrictions, the library has suffered a reduction in business hours and staff since February 2014. However, it has only caused the community to cherish even more the much-needed communication and research conduit it has come to represent for literally hundreds of individuals who walk through its doors weekly.

We can only look forward to the time that the library is again open to the community seven days a week with extended hours as before.Β  Until that time, we enjoy an exceptional group of people doing an extraordinary job!
