
The Honorable Shirley Franklin, Former Mayor of the City of Atlanta, Guest Speaker
Atlanta, GA (February 6, 2012), The Honorable Shirley Franklin, former Mayor of the City of Atlanta, will be the featured speaker at University Community Academy’s Black History Month Program on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. at Historic Friendship Baptist Church located at 437 Mitchell Street, SW, Atlanta, Georgia 30313, where Reverend Dr. Timothy T. Boddie is the pastor.
UCA is a charter school which was founded in 2002 by education professionals from the Atlanta University Center, parents, and community leaders, under a charter from the Georgia Department of Education with a recommendation from the Atlanta Public Schools (APS). UCA is a public, tuition-free school of choice receiving a portion of its funding from the State of Georgia. University Community Academy provides extended services including pre-kindergarten through eighth grade to its customers - students and families – through a 21st century grant.

Other special guests for this Black History Month program include Carol Ann Jackson Miller, daughter of the late Reverend Maynard Holbrook Jackson, Sr, one of the former pastors of Friendship Baptist Church. Reverend Jackson, is the also the father of the late Maynard Holbrook Jackson, former mayor of the City of Atlanta, and the great grandfather of Luke Jackson, a fourth grade student at UCA.
The event is free and open to the public.
