Atlanta Alphas Give Back To Community with Derby

More than 3,000 attend Alphas Derby over the three-day weekend

This year marked the fifth Anniversary of the local Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. signature event the Kentucky Derby Themed Weekend.

The eight metro Atlanta chapters of Alpha Phi Alpha work in concert to put on this popular event that attracted nearly 3,000 ladies showcasing their spring pastel colored dresses, big hats and gloves and gentlemen decked out in dapper suits, straw and fedora hats and bow ties.

From the Kick Off Soiree at the Grand Hyatt Buckhead featuring a fashion show by clothier Miguel Wilson, music by V103's Frank Ski and concert by Big Daddy Kane and Chubb Rock to the Kentucky Derby Watch Party on Saturday at the Georgia World Congress Center Georgia Ballroom featuring the Gritz and Jelly Butter band to the Jazz Brunch back at the Grand Hyatt Buckhead on Sunday, they came from as close as Atlanta and as far away as Charleston, Charlotte, Chicago and Louisville, the home of the actual Derby at Churchill Downs.

The beneficiaries of the Alpha Derby Weekend are The Pi Gamma Lambda Education Foundation, Randall D. Ponder Memorial Scholarship,The Henry Arthur Callis Education Foundation,The RKL Education Foundation, Alpha Atlanta Education Foundation Inc., The LEAD Foundation, The Charles H. Wesley Education Foundation and The Omicron Phi Lambda Education Foundation.
