Atlanta Falcons In The Playoffs Against The LA Rams

The Atlanta Falcons will face the LA Rams in one of the first Wild Card games on Saturday, January at 8 p.m. in the Los Angeles Coliseum.

The Falcons are the sixth seed and should they prevail in this game would move on to face the number one seed in the NFC East the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles are resting and waiting for the winning Wild Card team having a bye in the first round.

While the Falcons had a winning season last year and played in the Super Bowl in Houston, the Rams were 4-5 last season. The Rams now come into the playoffs with an 11-5 record. The team hired a new coach in 2017. Sean McVay, at 30, is the youngest coach in NFL history.

The LA Rams have five NFL Pro Bowlers on the 2018 roster including the much celebrated RB Todd Gurley (Georgia) and DT Aaron Donald (Pitt) who is expected to win defensive player of the year. The Falcons had six pro bowlers last year - Vic Beasley, Matt Bryant, Devonta Freeman, Julio Jones, Alex Mack and Matt Ryan. But this year only Jones and Mack made the roster. When asked about the lack of defensive players selected to the Pro Bowl from the Falcons like Deion Jones who had an outstanding season, Coach Dan Quinn said he is confident that Deion Jones will have many opportunities in the future.

Julio Jones is a four-time NFL Pro Bowler and has 76 catches for 1,215 yards and three touchdowns on the year, putting him at No. 3 in the league in receiving yards behind the Pittsburgh Steelers Antonio Brown (1,533) and DeAndre Hopkins (1,313). In his career, Jones has recorded 573 receptions for 8,825 yards.

Mack, another four-time Pro Bowler, has earned a Pro Bowl roster spot in his first two seasons in Atlanta. The Pro Bowl will be played at the Camping World Stadium in Orlando Florida at 3p.m. on Sunday, January 28.

The AFC Pittsburgh Steelers led all teams with a eight selections in the 2018 Pro Bowl and in the NFC the New Orleans Saints and Philadelphia Eagles tied for the most in the conference with six picks each led by Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz (who will miss the game due to a knee injury) and Saints QB Drew Brees.

The Falcons defeated their division rivals the Carolina Panthers to reach the playoffs. The Seattle Seahawks lost their game against the Arizona Cardinals and were eliminated from playoff contention.

The Super Bowl will be played at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Sunday, February 4 at 6:30 p.m. This is only the second time the city has hosted the big game.The last time was Super Bowl XXVI in 1992. The game will be televised on NBC.
