Atlanta Hawks Visit Young YMCA on Campbellton Road

Local youths learn hoops skills and fundamentals during camp event sponsored by Kia.

Recently, the Kia Summer Hoops Tour, hosted by the Atlanta Hawks and Kia Motors of America (KMA), made a pitstop at the Andrew & Walter Young YMCA on Campbellton Road for a basketball training session.

“My favorite part of the camp was the rebound training,” seven-year-old Keyanna Vaughns said. “My favorite part of the Kia Summer Hoops Tour was the passing,”11-year-old Devan Whitaker said.

During the session, 120 participants competed in a high-energy basketball clinic offered by the Atlanta Hawks Basketball Development Team. The kids were taught the fundamentals of basketball while they learned about the importance of school, character and fitness. The participants also received a jersey along with a bag courtesy of KMA and the Atlanta Hawks.

“We enjoyed the Kia Hawks coming out and supporting us,” said George Barker, site director at the YMCA. “It makes sure the students are active and involved, shooting basketball, running, exercising and reminding them the importance of exercise.”

The stop also included a shooting competition. Local 13-year-old Bomani Branson took the victory against coach Brian.
