As part of its BLACK BOX series, Spelman College Museum of Fine Art hosts a screening of Untangled: Getting to the Roots of a Hair Movement Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at 6:30pm.
Untangled: Getting to the Roots of a Hair Movement is a 45-minute documentary that examines socio-cultural motivations behind why more Black women are wearing their hair natural. Comprised of personal interviews and dialogues with individuals in the hair care industry, Untangled examines the personal and professional motivations surrounding the natural hair movement and unpacks the similarities and differences between it and movements of the past.
A post screening discussion will be moderated by nationally-celebrated stylist M. London of Locmamas Salon.
BLACK BOX is a site for play, dialogue, and creative risk taking that encourages artists of all disciplines to engage with others connected to their subject matter. Each program affords the opportunity for cultural producers to share in-progress works on the art and culture of the African Diaspora in front of a live audience for feedback, engagement, and encouragement. It also provides a space for arts enthusiasts to view compelling work from some of the most exciting and thought-provoking artists working today.
The Museum is located at 350 Spelman Lane SW, Atlanta GA 30314 (GPS address: 440 Westview Drive, S.W. Atlanta 30310). The event is free and open to the public. For more information call 404-270-5607.
