As of this writing Herman Cain is leading in Iowa polls and Texas polls, to name a few. He also is mishandling a 15-year-old sexual harassment charge—one that he allegedly had 10 days in which to get his messaging right.
But I want to address the vitriol coming from my friends. Now this is not a small number, I am close to 2,000 FB friends and overwhelmingly the large number of them have posted inflammatory words, rehashed opinions and petty whining.
Now I could not for a long time figure out why a group of people who don't vote Republican and who thought Cain did not stand a chance a month ago would react so viciously when he rose in the polls. I am seeing friends who go to church every Sunday (shall I mention that Herman is Associate Pastor at Antioch Baptist Church which is in the hood?), who defended Obama against any and all slights go at Herman for the smallest things like why his wife is not with him on the campaign trail. I see friends who are usually pretty centered politically go after Herman on center type issues like tax reform. I see friends who hammered Occupy Wall Street, when Herman spoke of Occupy these same friends went ballistic.

So what does this tell us about ourselves as a community? Why is a Black man who has done every thing that defines black culture correctly-Morehouse, Church, Family, Business is being disparaged in such a vicious way. I don't want to believe that these things no longer define our great culture instead that-Agnosticism, Rap music, HS education, and single parent households define us now.
It must be opposition to Obama. And if it is then what does this tell us about ourselves? It says that more importantly than doing all the rights things in ones life, one has to say all the right things in our life. For the first time in my life I am witnessing a watch what I say not what I do mentality in a community which was the opposite just decades ago. Consider that Tavis Smiley who has spent an adult lifetime doing for African Amercans and Himself is summarily thrown off radio because he dares question the president. Al Sharpton who has a low rated syndicated show which had not gone past 16 stations for four years, all of sudden is on MSNBC due to his complete bowing down to Barack Obama.

I say this to say that a people who are so tied emotionally and physically to a POLITICAL candidate-Obama- are doomed to be hurt. If you are so invested in Obama that all reason goes out the window-"He is not president of black America so he cannot do specific plans for black people"- but when he is attacked politically, it is because he is Black. It does not stand up to reason. So you are bound to be disappointed. You see politics when played correctly is a dance at a singles bar. Some times you dance with someone who is not the main chase. Sometimes when you are at the singles dance you buy a drink for that one girl who may not be all that pretty but she has a great personality just to make a move on the main chase later. Sometimes, ladies you dance with Mr. well dressed just to get Mr. good looking to notice you on the dance floor.
My point is Mr. Cain has done everything right in his life but yet we blast him because he is not a democrat or he is against Obama. His comment on poor people has been said by every social scientist in the sentence-" Generational Poverty is passed down through bad decisions and bad environment". Or listen to your grandmother when she told you "No one can make your life bad, only you control your future".
His comments on Blacks being brainwashed by democratic party is true. Look at every social conservative issue and ask your friends what they believe and every issue you will find your black friends are on the conservative side. Abortion-no one I know wants to have one, and most families frown on their girls who do. Homosexuality-Ask your parents if you were gay would they love you just the same? Watch them flinch. Illegal Immigration-Ask the brother down the street who he blames for not getting construction work anymore. Prayer in Schools-the most religious people in the country by every poll would love to have prayer in schools. School Choice-nuff said.
So if you feel that Obama is great for your kids to see as president. I suggest you stop shouting down Herman Cain and show them that they can go against the grain if they believe in their hearts they are right. That to not go with the crowd is okay. But also remember this, because many of us just came to politics since Obama became president. There is no primary in the Democratic party. So flood the republican primary with votes for Herman. You can still vote for Obama in the general election. The only bad part is that you will have to stay out of democrat primary in local elections but since symbolism is so important to us as a people then get Herman in general election. What do you care anyway, republicans are racist and would never vote for a black man. Right?
