UPDATE: City Council Approves New District Maps
Cascade Heights, Beecher Hills are now part of C.T. Martin's 10th district.

The Cascade Heights and Beecher Hills communities are now part of Councilman C.T. Martin's 10th District, under the latest map that has been approved by the Atlanta City Council.
The council formally gave its approval to the new map, known as Plan 6, during its regular meeting on Monday, Feb. 6.
The map now goes onto Mayor Kasim Reed for approval, and then onto the U.S. Department of Justice.

Plan 6 is the city councilβs latest attempt to redraw its boundaries in accordance with data.
Both Cascade Heights and Beecher Hills were part of Councilwoman Keisha Bottomsβ 11th District.

The Cascade Avenue community remains in the 11th District, but the Delowe Drive neighborhood is split between districts 11 and 12, represented by Councilwoman Joyce Sheperd.
Currently, all of Delowe Drive is in district 11. Under the proposal, Delowe Driveβs western portion is in district 11, while the neighborhoodβs eastern section has moved into Sheperdβs.
In order to account for 2010 census data, each of the cityβs 12 districts must have a population of at least 35,000.
Cities, counties and states are required by law to redraw and adjust their electoral boundaries when a new Census is completed, to reflect new population numbers and demographics. A citizen who lived in one city council district may live in another after the boundaries have been redrawn and approved.
