Mama Koku Performs Faith Ringgold’s Book “Tar Beach” at Spelman College Museum of Fine Art

Spelman College Museum of Fine Art and NBAF, presenters of the National Black Arts Festival, will host a community day on Saturday, March 17, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., featuring master storyteller and children’s writer Donna Kokumo Buie, best known as “Mama Koku.” She will perform Faith Ringgold’s book “Tar Beach,” which won the Coretta Scott King Illustrator Award in 1991. 

Children of all ages are invited to participate in the interactive reading.  The event, which is free and open to the public, is presented in conjunction with the Museum’s exhibition “American People, Black Light: Faith Ringgold’s Paintings of the 1960’s.”
