Residents are invited and encouraged to come out for National Night Out, a community police awareness-raising event held annually on the first Tuesday of August. Established in 1984, the event is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
The event will allow residents to learn about ways of organizing effective neighborhood watch groups and talk with the Burglary and Gang Units of the Atlanta Police Department about how communities can assist police in combating crime.
After the event, attendees are invited to bring their lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy the screening of the family friendly movie, “The Karate Kid,” at sundown.
