Michael and Jerome Russell, of H. J. Russell Company to Offer Personal Testimony
Atlanta, GA (July 23, 2012) Cascade United Methodist Church, 3144 Cascade Road, Atlanta, Georgia, will host an Organ and Tissue Transplantation/Donation Symposium on Saturday, August 11, 2012, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The symposium, “Share Life: Each One, Reach One,” is jointly sponsored by the Azalea City Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, and the Health and Wellness Ministry of Cascade.
The event is an effort to raise community awareness about the need for “gifts of life” through blood, bone marrow, organ and tissue donations. A major goal is to increase the number of African Americans participating in donor programs. Organizers will present information about organ/tissue donation and transplantation in a theologically and scientifically sound environment; engage participants in dialogue that raises awareness of the various types of donation; and celebrate donors and recipients.
Among those who will share testimonials are Siblings Michael and Jerome Russell, Chief Executive Officer and President of H.J. Russell and Company, who were organ donor and recipient. Rev. Dr. Marvin Moss, Cascade United Methodist Church Senior Pastor, will provide a theological perspective about organ donations and transplantations, and Dr. Roderick Stevenson, a noted surgeon, will provide a medical perspective. Speakers representing The American Red Cross, LifeLink, and the National Bone Marrow Donor Program will provide pertinent information regarding types of donations, and eligibility. Dr. Mackie Norris, Chair of the Health and Wellness Ministry at Cascade and Dr. Annie Gavin, Chair of the Health and Human Services Facet, Azalea City Chapter of The Links, are co-chairs of the symposium. Diann Mustin, a kidney donor, serves as honorary chair of “Share Life: Each One, Reach One.”
