The is a free event that is open to the public. Speakers will include Geneasa Elias, Director of Planning & Zoning for the City of East Point, Kevin Veler an Attorney at Law at The Veler Law Firm, Lem Howard a State Farm Insurance agent, and Lanard Cullins a FEMA Disaster Inspector.
The National Center for the Prevention of Home Improvement Fraud, which is hosting the event, is a 501c3 nonprofit and their mission is to educate homeowners so they don’t become victims of home repair contractor fraud.
Attendees will learn how to deal with contractors and recognize typical scams. They will also learn what to do before, during and after a project as well as how to find contractors, how to check out contractors, what should be in your contract, insurance issues you didn’t know about, managing the building permit process, conflict resolution, how to pay a contractor, change orders, lien waivers and more.
