The Event: The High Museum presents a Radcliffe Bailey Film Series: Strange Fruit to a wanting audience. Mixing in jazz genealogy, biography, history of lynching and performance footage by the likes of Billy Holliday, Cassandra Wilson and Abbey Lincoln makes this documentary film a must see for all people and all generations.

This Joel Katz directed film tells the story of the influential anti-lynching protest song, “Strange Fruit” recorded by Billie Holliday and inspired by a photo of a lynching. This documentary also has contributions by folk singer Pete Seeger, playwright Amiri Baraka, activist C.T. Vivian and others who lent their voices so the story of “Strange Fruits” and its power could be told.

Strange Fruits put power to the horrors of lynching that American politicians and lawmakers could no longer hide behind that notion that they had never seen it or heard about it. Please visit www.high.org or call 404-733-4400 to learn more about the museum and for more information. To see the film is separate from going to the Museum.

Also the museum itself, if interested, is a separate venue and its cost is $18 but this weekend for all Fulton County Residents and those students who go to school in Fulton County with proper ID get in the museum for free. It’s Fulton County Free Saturday’s.
