Nurses from CTCA at Southeastern Earn Prestigious Award
Local Residents Honored with the Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurses
Newnan resident Pam Slepko and Luthersville resident Amanda Pate were recently honored with the Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurses, one of the highest honors in the nursing profession. Both serve as nurses at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) at Southeastern Regional Medical Center (Southeastern) and were nominated by patients who appreciated the care they received while treating at the hospital.
“Pam is an experienced and dedicated mentor who is trustworthy and empathetic,” said Laura Craig, RN, BSN, manager of Centers for Advanced Oncology at CTCA at Southeastern. “She is often recognized by our patients for providing a listening ear and making them feel as though she has known them for years.”
Slepko became interested in pursuing a career in the medical field after entering a two-year medical assistant program while just in high school. While in the program, she was encouraged by her instructor to continue her education to become a RN.

Although Pate decided to begin her nursing career later in life after pursuing a career in business, she feels medicine has always been her calling and the reaction she gets from her fellow nurses back up that sentiment.
“Amanda is a fabulous nurse who is able to convey a deep sense of caring and compassion very quickly,” said Deborah Robichaux, MBA, BSN, RN, CCRN, CEN. “She makes a difference in the lives of her patients by going the extra mile – by spending an extra minute, answering one more question, or sharing a smile or hug.”

The DAISY Foundation, a nonprofit based in Glen Allen, Calif., was established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, a Hodgkins Disease survivor who passed away at the age of 33 after being admitted to the hospital for a rare auto-immune disease. Patrick’s family, who was impressed with the caliber of the nursing staff, started the DAISY Foundation to recognize amazing nurses.
CTCA at Southeastern is based in Newnan, Ga. and is one of five fully accredited cancer hospitals in the CTCA network, with other locations in Chicago, Philadelphia, Phoenix and Tulsa.
