Hundreds of well- wishers gathered at Fellowship of Faith on Sunday evening, October 13th to celebrate the 75th birthday of Pastor Wayne C. Thompson. The atmosphere was charged with thanksgiving for a man who has devoted the last 35 years of his life to full time ministry both in the United States and abroad. He has also served as mentor and spiritual father to many sons and daughters in ministry who now lead congregations in many parts of the nation.
Pastor Thompson is recognized as one of the most outstanding pastors in the metro Atlanta area and has been cited numerous times for his contribution to the spiritual well-being of his flock and the community at large. He is credited as the Founder of Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy, one of the oldest surviving Christian schools in the south metro area. The school has a remarkable record of academic excellence. Attendance at the event reflected the honoree’s undeniable connection to multi-generations as young and old alike affectionately referred to him as a significant loving father figure having deposited much into their lives. To cite one example, only 48 hours earlier, Fellowship of Faith convened a forum on Affordable Healthcare for the sake of making sure the community has accurate and updated information.
In spite of a life dedicated to others, Pastor Wayne was careful to take no credit for any success or achievement attributed to him. Rather, he encouraged all in attendance to remember that “God is faithful and that as his own life has been blessed, the Lord has also promised to bless those who are faithful and who believe. Even in the midst of trial and adversity, he spoke with the authority of a prophet and reminded the gathering that “the latter days shall be better than the former.”

Reflections from his offspring, a son and four daughters along with all of the grandchildren, revealed much affection for the man whom they have shared with the world. Throughout the 35 years of ministry and during all of his marriage, he has been blessed through the partnership, love and affection of Sister Geraldine Thompson, First Lady of Fellowship of Faith.
The church is located at 2553 Connally Drive in East Point.
