The Spelman College SIS Oral History Project will host the screening of the documentary, "Womanish Ways, Freedom, Human Rights & Democracy" on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 6 p.m. The documentary narrates the story of the journey to female enfranchisement led by five Bahamian women - Mary Ingraham, Georgiana Symonette, Mabel Walker, Eugenia Lockhard, and Dame Dr. Doris Johnson.
Directed by Marion Bethel, Ph.D., an award-winning poet, short-story writer, and essayist, the documentary is dedicated to the heroic struggle of Kate Moss and Mary Prince, two enslaved women who fought for their freedom in the 1820s in the Bahamas, and to the women of the Women’s Suffrage Movement who continued with the advocacy for freedom and social justice.
