Spelman College Museum of Fine Art Screens John Akomfrah's 'The Last Angel of History'
The Spelman College Museum of Fine Art will host a community screening

The Spelman College Museum of Fine Art in partnership with the Octavia E. Butler: Celebrating Letters, Life, and Legacy Conference and Department of English will host a community screening of John Akomfrahβs seminal film The Last Angel of History (1996), Sunday, Feb. 28 at 3 p.m. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Kevin Ship, artist and gallery coordinator at Gallery 72 in Atlanta.
In The Last Angel of History Akomfrah probes the relationships between Pan-African culture, science fiction, intergalactic travel and ever-changing computer technology. The film metaphorically uses science fiction themes like alien abduction, estrangement, and genetic engineering to present the Pan-African experience that includes forced displacement, cultural alienation and otherness.
Free and open to the public, the screening will take place at Spelman College Museum of Fine Art in the Camilla Olivia Hanks Cosby, Ed.D. Academic Center (GPS Address: 440 Westview Drive, Atlanta 30310). For more information, visit museum.spelman.edu or call (404) 270-5607.
