Summer break is a welcomed time however it also presents the challenge to ensure that a youthful generation remains academically engaged and productive. Technology-driven and keenly sensory-driven, the library is a good place to harness such energy and motivation.
Scores of youngsters and their parents made their way to SW Branch Library on Cascade Road Tuesday morning for the annual Summer Reading Program Kick-off.Β In addition to a myriad of reader-friendly kid activities, the facility was quite busy with storytelling from Kuumba and K C Christian, face painting, a balloon artist who bedazzled the children with magical zoological creations and crafts.Β A high point of the day was scheduled for 2:00 pm with a session on edible science featuring a fun food study activity highlighting the science of the foods we eat.
The staff, along with volunteers, served as hosts for entire families as they delightedly signed up for weeks of spectacular fun and enlightenment through the neighborhood library.Β An elect watering hole for the community, SW Branch Library enjoys a constant flow of clients, young and old, daily (except for Friday closings due to new budget cutbacks).Β Every day, patrons are at the entrance waiting for the facility to open.Β It remains a hub of activity until closing.
