56th annual Equal Opportunity Day Dinner and Gala

Nov. 1, 2017 (Atlanta, GA) – As the nation struggles with issues of diversity and inclusion, the Urban League of Greater Atlanta has dedicated its 56th annual Equal Opportunity Day Dinner to honoring organizations and individuals who are committed to building unity in the Atlanta metropolitan region and beyond.

With the theme Empowering Communities through Unity, Collaboration, Diversity and Inclusion, the event will be held on Saturday, Nov. 18, at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis hotel, 265 Peachtree Center Avenue, beginning with a 6 p.m. reception, followed by dinner at 7. For tickets contact Dottie Johnson at djohnson@ulgatl.org or 404 659-1150.

Noted comedian Jonathan Slocum will serve as emcee for the seasonal event that typically attracts an audience of more than 700, including Atlanta’s top political and business leaders, celebrities, program beneficiaries, and a diverse community of individuals who support the Urban League of Greater Atlanta’s mission.

β€œDuring the Civil Rights movement of the last century, Atlanta built a reputation as the city β€˜too busy to hate.’ We are now grateful to have partners in the business and civic community building a reputation for our city as one that embraces diversity, collaboration and inclusion,” said Nancy Flake Johnson, president and CEO of the ULGA.

β€œWe are exceptionally pleased to honor a few of our dedicated partners whose unstinting support has helped us advance the League’s goals of empowering communities through equal opportunity in areas including education, jobs, careers, business ownership, housing, economic advancement and civic participation.”

Among the honorees this year are STATE FARM INSURANCE COMPANY, receiving the Workforce Diversity & Inclusion Award; ATLANTA TECHNICAL COLLEGE, being presented with the Education Collaboration & Empowerment Award; CHRIS 180, honored with the Youth Collaboration Empowerment Award; and the ATLANTA POLICE FOUNDATION, receiving the Unity & Collaboration Youth Empowerment Award.

GEICO is the events lead sponsor, and Attorney and Mrs. Kenneth B. Hodges III, and Mr. and Mrs. Tony Kidd are honorary chairs.
