17 Burglaries, 489 Crashes: Forsyth Deputy Shares Feb Stats

CUMMING, GA — Cornelia Young, of the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, provided an update and crime statistics Tuesday for February 2018.

Young said there were 565 traffic accidents, 504 alarm calls, 17 burglaries, up from 13 in January, 34 illegally entering auto cases and 489 vehicle crashes. She said car more crashes take place on Wednesdays between 4:30 and 6 p.m. than any other time of the week in February.

Among the events listed in February, Young said a red-tailed hawk that was unable to move from a homeowner's backyard and a sheriff's office deputy received permission from the State to take the hawk to the Chattahoochee Nature Center in Roswell.

Young also reported that a new School Safety Task Force has been commissioned to conduct a comprehensive safety assessment of all Forsyth County school campuses, Forsyth County Schools Superintendent Dr. Jeff Bearden and Forsyth County Sheriff Ron Freeman announced Tuesday.

They are commissioning the task force with an objective of completing a comprehensive safety assessment of all Forsyth County school campuses and review of possible security improvements. The task force will be led by Major Joe Perkins of the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office and include additional FCSO deputies, staff from Forsyth County Schools as well as representatives from the Forsyth County Fire Department and Forsyth County Emergency Management Agency.
