18-Year-Old Girl Dies In Crash On GA 400: ICYMI

An 18-year-old Cumming girl died early this morning after hitting the median on Georgia 400 and traveling across three lanes of traffic.

CUMMING, GA — An 18-year-old Cumming girl died early this morning after hitting the median on Georgia 400 and traveling across three lanes of traffic., according to the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office.

At around 6:45 a.m., Haley Marie Wood was traveling northbound on Georgia 400, approaching the Majors Road Bridge, and lost control, striking the concrete median wall. The car then traveled back across three lanes, existed the roadway and struck a tree.

Wood was pronounced dead when sheriff's deputies and firemen arrived on the scene. No other cars were hit and there were no other injuries.

Investigators have determined that Wood was driving a black 2016 Honda Civic sedan in the right lane when the accident happened.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Traffic Specialist Unit.
