'Adults-Only' Hotel Pitch Has Neighbors Worried

No kids can be a selling point for customers, but the no-families business model has neighbors expecting the worst. What do you think?

“Adults only” is the type of phrase some expect to be paired with the something unseemly — wild, rowdy (maybe even raunchy) acts that would scar children forever. It’s meant to protect the kids.

From all appearances, a new hotel from Belamere Suites is not that kind of establishment. It’s more the anti-kids model of “adults only.” A hotel version of the high-end restaurants that turn their noses up to runny nosed little ones. Or the “no infants” spring wedding invitations that regularly sends guests scrambling for childcare.

Belamere Suites is looking to add a new location at 2525 Antioch Road after success in Ohio — the website boasts a “best romantic getaway” prize and “most memorable experience” from Ohio Magazine.

The magazine wrote, in part: “Belamere is an over-the-top boutique hotel in Perrysburg that easily made the cut. The place promises opulence: The suites have private entrances and personal garages, and the Presidential Suites even features their own 18-by-11-foot heated indoor swimming pool.”

Sounds nice, right? Well, it appears that depends on your proximity.

An adjacent church is worried the hotel will sit so close. “We don’t feel it’s appropriate right here next to the church,” Rev. Travis Bridgeman told WSBTV.

Other neighbors are worried about the “romantic encounters” that Belamere Suites promotes on it’s website.

“It’s an adult oriented business (21+) and should not be adjacent to residential areas,” reads an online petition with nearly 1,500 signatures.

The Forsyth News notes that Ethan Underwood, an attorney for Belamere owner John Kranjec, noted this is a high-end hotel experience and defended his client from some wild assertions. “It’s ludicrous and defamatory and it’s wrong,” he said.

The project appears scheduled for a public hearing in August.
