Alpharetta's Metcam Named Manufacturer of the Year

Metcam, Inc. of Alpharetta, Ga., named 2018 Small Manufacturer of the Year at annual Governor's Awards Luncheon

At an Atlanta luncheon held Thursday, Gov. Nathan Deal named Metcam, located in Alpharetta, Ga., the winner of the 2018 Manufacturer of the Year award in the category of Small Manufacturer with fewer than 150 employees.

“These three companies represent the best we have to offer for manufacturing in the state of Georgia,” Gov. Deal said in his keynote address to the audience of more than 1,200 business and industry leaders attending the celebration at the Georgia International Convention Center in College Park, Ga. “They are critical to the success of Georgia leading the nation as the best state in the U.S. for doing business for the past five years running.”

“I am honored to be able to accept this award today on behalf of Metcam,” said Bruce Hagenau, president of Metcam, a fabricator of sheet metal components and assemblies for OEMs. “Every day, Metcam’s dedicated employees strive to achieve our mission of highest quality products delivered on time.”

Hagenau also praised “the benefit of great training.” He commended the partnership Metcam forged with Georgia Quick Start and Lanier Technical College: “They have provided over three thousand man hours of training to our staff in areas from print reading to communications to leadership to lean manufacturing.”

Other winners included Pratt & Whitney from Columbus, Ga., which won the Large Manufacturer category, and NIBCO from Greensboro, which won the Medium Manufacturer category.

This is the 24th year celebrating Manufacturing Appreciation Week in Georgia. This year’s sponsors included the Georgia Association of Manufacturers, the Georgia Manufacturing Extension Partnership with the Georgia Institute of Technology, Georgia Power, and HA+W | Aprio.

In his proclamation declaring April 9-12 as Manufacturing Appreciation Week, Gov. Deal noted the tremendous contribution manufacturing makes to the state’s economic growth. According to the proclamation, nearly 9,738 manufacturing facilities are located in Georgia, providing 396,339 jobs and generating more than $23.1 billion in wages for Georgia’s citizens, and contributing more than $100 billion to the state’s economy each year.

The three winning companies were nominated by business and civic leaders and chosen for their excellence and contributions to the state’s economy and their respective local communities.
