Here are the top three stories today in Cumming:
- Alpharetta authorities are encouraging residents to secure their pets and trash cans as a bear has been spotted around town. The Alpharetta Department of Public Safety said Sunday that a vehicle hit the animal near Avalon, at which point the bear ran into the woods.
Authorities add that the animal is being tracked and that the best thing to do if you come across it is to simply leave it alone and don't try to help it. - A second Dairy Queen is coming to Forsyth County. Assuming the air conditioning system arrives in time, the restaurant is slated to open August 8 and will be located at the intersection of Keith Bridge Road and Rowe Lane. The air conditioning system was ordered in January, but due to supply chain issues and shortages, the unit has still not arrived. The DQ will include new architecture as well as a large outdoor patio. The other long-standing Dairy Queen is in downtown Cumming at 103 Atlanta Road. (Forsyth County News).
- Milton High School will host the 2022 Atlanta Freedom Bowl on Aug. 19 and Aug. 20 to raise awareness for U.S. military veterans. Eight high school football teams will compete against one another in four marquee matchups, and the winner of each game will be awarded a Freedom Bowl Championship trophy. The Freedom Bowl proceeds benefit wounded warriors and their families. (Appen Media)
