Boy's Body Found In Store Parking Lot In Cumming

CUMMING, GA — Authorities are still working to identify a boy's body found inside a vehicle last week in a store parking lot in Cumming, the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office told Patch on Tuesday.

The boy was found dead Wednesday in the 2300 block of Peachtree Parkway, according to an incident report obtained and reviewed by Patch.

Responding deputies recovered his body from a van belonging to a man who was homeless after receiving a report from the store manager, according to the report.

The manager noticed the van, which she said usually moves daily, went unmoved for a couple of days, the report stated. Furthermore, a "nasty" order emanated from the van.

When deputies arrived, they found the boy's body inside the back of the vehicle on a mattress, according to the report.

The boy was laying on his left side with his hand raised by his head, and his head laid toward the van's back hatch, the report stated.

"The body had a pungent smell that was very prominent and lingered wherever the wind would bring it," authorities said in the report.

First responders relocated the mattress onto a tarp before laying a body bag onto it, according to the report.

The body was placed in three body bags "to mask the smell," the report stated.

The time of death was called at 11 p.m. A cause of death was not revealed.
