CDC Receives Grant to Battle Ebola Outbreak

The Robert Johnson Wood Foundation has given the center $1 million to assist healthcare officials in western Africa fight the virus.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention has been given a $1 million grant from the Robert Johnson Wood Foundation which will be used to combat the latest outbreak of Ebola Hemorrhagic Fever in west Africa.

The Atlanta Business Chronicle reports that grant will be used by the CDC to increase their response to the outbreak by providing more personal protection equipment, thermal scanners, laptop computers, and infection control training for doctors working in the affected outbreak zone.

Ebola Virus Disease is a potentially deadly disease caused by the Ebola virus. The latest outbreak of the virus began in December, 2013 and has infected 2,615 people in Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone. 1,427 people have died during the latest outbreak.

Two American aid workers who were assisting outbreak victims in Liberia became infected with the virus themselves and were transported to Atlanta for treatment. They have both recovered.
