Air Quality Alert Issued in Cumming for Tuesday

Heat indices will rise above 94 for much of the afternoon while the air quality alert is in effect.

The Natural Weather Service has issued a code orange air quality alert for the Atlanta area on Tuesday, Aug. 4, the National Weather Service announced Monday afternoon.

A code orange air quality alert means the air may be unhealthy for certain people, including children, people who are sensitive to the ozone, and people with heart or lung disease.

The following groups should avoid prolonged outdoor exertion during the late-afternoon and early-evening hours when the ozone concentrations are highest, the NWS said.

The NWS forecast for Cumming said the heat index will rise as high as 96 on Tuesday. The heat index will sit at at least 94 degrees from 1-6 p.m.
