Cumming Motorist Killed in Sunday Wreck in South Forsyth

Both drivers involved in the head-on collision were trying to navigate the same curve, sheriff's deputies said.

A Cumming man was killed on Sunday evening when the car he was driving collided head-on with another vehicle while navigating a curving road in southern Forsyth County, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.

Kenneth Payne, 54, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on Old Atlanta Road near Daves Creek Drive, said Dep. Andrew Ives, a traffic investigator with the Sheriff’s Office. The other motorist involved, 34-year-old Kirthika Sivasubramanian of Cumming, was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries, Ives said.

Investigators currently believe that at approximately 10:35 p.m. Sunday, Payne was driving his northbound 1997 Chevrolet Blazer in the southbound lane of Old Atlanta Road trying to negotiate a curve near Daves Creek Road. Sivasubramanian was trying to negotiate a similar curve heading southbound in her 2013 Nissan Leaf. The curving road prevented Sivasubramanian from seeing Payne coming straight at her until it was too late, and the two vehicles collided, according to investigators.
