CUMMING, GA — The Sawnee-Cumming Optimist Club contributed $8,411.05 to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. The donation was made possible by the club's 2019 charity golf tournament held at Hampton Golf Village. Tournament proceeds also benefit the club's community programs for children. The check was presented to Laurie Cole, community development officer at Children's Healthcare Forsyth County.

This year the tournament featured young club ambassador, and patient from Children’s,
Ethan Daniels.

“Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is extremely grateful for the support from our friends at the Sawnee-Cumming Optimist Club for eight consecutive years,” Cole said. “This year
was not only the most successful tournament, but also the most special. Having our rock
star ambassador Ethan to start the tournament with an inspirational speech left a powerful
impression on all who attended.”

“For the past few years I have always wanted to have an ambassador kid to represent our club, and this year that dream came true,” club president Brenda Basey said. “Ethan was such an inspiration to our event and our golfers. I believe his speech that morning before the golfers went out touched each person there and had such an impact on the entire day.”

Basey added, “We are honored to partner with such a great organization as Children's Healthcare that is so important to our community. Members of the Sawnee-Cumming Optimist Club are grateful to all the sponsors and participants of the golf tournament for making this donation possible for the continuing fight against childhood cancer."
