District Spelling B-E-E Competition This Weekend
Parker Davenport, Forsyth's 2011 Spelling Bee Champion, heads to district championship.

When Parker Davenport, a student at Otwell Middle School, correctly spelled the word “taxidermy” during Forsyth County’s Spelling Bee competition recently, he became this year’s county champion.
Davenport, along with first runner-up Morgan Voshall from Vickery Creek Middle School, second runner-up Drayton Ellis from Silver City Elementary School and alternate Justin Ebert from North Forsyth Middle School travel to Marietta for the District Spelling Bee held at Mabry Middle School today.
It’s one step closer to Georgia’s 2011 spelling champion.

“The district level Bees are just as exciting, if not more so in some cases, as the state championship,” said Calvine Rollins, president of the Georgia Association of Educators (GAE) in a statement. “It is pins and needles from this point out. In addition, this year is special in that we will be celebrating the Bee’s 50th anniversary.”
According to the GAE, the State Spelling Bee is sponsored by the association, which decides Georgia’s representative to the national spelling bee sponsored by Scripps.
