Early Voting For SPLOST Underway
Cast your vote early for next week's SPLOST for Schools referendum.
Early voting is underway for the March 15 SPLOST for Schools referendum, the proposed special purpose local option one percent (1%) sales tax.
Residents can vote at one of the five locations through Friday, March 11.
- Downtown Cumming: Forsyth County Administration Building, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- North Forsyth: Forsyth County Public Safety Complex, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- West Forsyth: Midway Park, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Central Forsyth: Cumming Public Library, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- South Forsyth: Forsyth County property known as Lakeland Community Church, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
If approved, the penny tax will go into effect in July 2012 and continue until 2017 or until $195 million is collected. The funds would be used to repay $141 million in bond indebtedness and to make badly needed capital improvements. School officials say if the SPLOST for Schools is not approved, the Forsyth County Board of Education will have to increase property taxes in order to make the bond payments.
