Enjoy Frozen Yogurt and “Make Japan Smile”

Local business gives back for disaster relief.

Nothing makes you feel better than contributing to a worthy cause. Unless your contribution also has a cherry on top.

Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt is donating 10% of all proceeds today to the Red Cross disaster relief fund, to assist those impacted by the Japanese earthquake and tsunami.

“We’re here to help,” says Menchie’s Managing Partner Rodd Seigel. Seven locations in the Atlanta metro are participating in the event “Make Japan Smile," along with select markets across the United States.

Andrea Koppel of the American Red Cross says the American public has donated more than 120 million dollars so far, and that number reflects the contributions of businesses. She says the money is going to the Japanese Red Cross, which is using it in its emergency and longer-term recovery response.

“We are immensely grateful to the American public for their continued generosity,” said David Meltzer, senior vice president of international services in a prepared statement.

Menchie’s is a national chain that offers a variety of unique frozen yogurt flavors, such as Chai Tea, Cheesecake and Pistachio. They carry 40 toppings from ordinary to extraordinary, including cocoa pebbles, jelly bellies, the classic rainbow sprinkles, hot fudge and fresh fruit.

“Anybody can sell frozen yogurt. We sell the experience. We’re set up for families and they love us. It’s all about having fun.”

But Seigel is quick to add that community service is part of the company culture.

"That’s one thing that separates us from other companies, that we definitely give back to the community as much as we possibly can. We’re in the local schools, we’re in local businesses and anything we can help with, we do,” he says.

At Menchie’s, you pay by weight, not per topping. Today, you can pile them on to brighten more than just your corner of the world.

Menchie's is located at 905 Market Place Blvd. in Cumming.
