        Middle School Class - Ages 10 - 14

Narrative Writing will be used as an introductory assignment. Next, the two - point Expository Essay format will be taught and capitalization and punctuation rules will be studied in depth. Spelling rules will also be reviewed. We will use both fiction and non-fiction examples to create our own writing samples. Persuasive writing techniques will be studied, and along with Narrative Writing, we will review the 3 point Expository Essay and the 5 Paragraph Essay guidelines and editing techniques. Finally, peer review and public speaking will play an important part of this class.

High School Class - Ages 14+
In this course, students will discover how public speaking, note taking, grammar, mechanics and usage rules, and proper writing skills relate to effective communication in general. Families will have the opportunity to choose between topics generated by NGWA or those already being studied at home or school to produce college level writing and to prepare for a successful collegiate experience. The composition component of this Literature/Composition Class will focus upon Expository, Persuasive, and Research Skills and will weave grammar skills, vocabulary enrichment, and peer and self editing techniques all throughout. Homework will be necessary and will range from 1 to 2 hours per week, depending on the type of writing assignment given for that week.  Class is best suited for students age 14+.
