"Rev Up Your School Year: A Literacy Festival on Wheels"

****The event was originally planned for Aug. 29 but has been rescheduled due to possible storms from the hurricane. It has been rescheduled to Oct. 13, 4 - 6 p.m.****

The school year is already back in session and the Family Resource Center at Little Mill Middle School is making sure the students and families keep that first day excitement. On August 29, Little Mill will be hosting a very unique literacy festival – one involving wheels.

The “Rev Up Your School Year: A Literacy Festival on Wheels” event will showcase various wheeled vehicles, ranging from the one-wheeled to four wheels. Teachers from the school will even join the fun by riding motorcycles and a unicycle. Other wheeled participants will include a fire truck, race cars, limos, racing bikes from Reality Bikes Racing Team and classic cars. The fun will continue with face painting and balloon art.

Other vendors include FaithHouse, Legacy Link, Next Generation Focus, PTO Chestatee/LMMS/NFHS, and Habitat for Humanity. Participants are encouraged to visit each booth to find out about their free services and will receive a raffle ticket for each booth they visit to win prizes.

The event will be held Wednesday, August 29 from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. in the Little Mill bus lot. Individuals who would like to showcase their wheels during the “Rev Up” can register through August 24th.

The Family Resource Center’s mission is to partner with families to have a positive impact on the attitude, attendance and academic performance of all children whose paths cross with theirs.

This event is part of the LMMS Title I plan for 2012-2013. Funding for these events are sponsored by community partners or represent no cost to the Title I. Vendors for this event as well as the theme were chosen by survey input from the Families and F.E.A.T of the Title I program participants at LMMS school year 2012-2013.
