FCSO: 'Suspicious' Man Arrested With Two Guns At Alliance Academy

A "suspicious" man was arrested Wednesday afternoon at the Alliance Academy after he was found with two guns on school property, police say.

CUMMING, GA — A potentially scary situation was averted Wednesday after school personnel at the Alliance Academy for Innovation used the "see something, say something" method.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said a suspicious person was seen on the school's campus by school personnel, who called their school resource officer for assistance.

Two Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office school resource officers were on campus and immediately responded, confronting the individual.

The individual, identified as Gene Steven Barbara, 41, from Alpharetta, was found with two handguns. While he did have a valid Georgia Weapons License, the Sheriff's Office said guns are not permitted on school grounds.

Barbara was taken into custody for possession of firearms in a school zone and was also cited for loitering and prowling.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Forsyth County Schools Department of School Safety, is investigating this incident and it is ongoing.

At this point in the investigation, it does not appear that the man had any intent to cause harm, the Sheriff's Office said.
