Forsyth Business Leader Dies
Recognized by many as a leader in the business community, Robert Jones served more than 15 years as president of American Proteins.
Robert Jones, 73, of Cumming, Ga. passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2013 surrounded by loved ones at his home in north Forsyth. A native of Forsyth County, he is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Madge Jones; brother, Cleon Jones; brother, J.C. Jones; grandson, Tyler Barnett; daughter- in- law, Angie Freeman Jones; and, son in law, David Barnett.
Recognized by many as a leader in the business community, Mr. Jones served more than 15 years as president of American Proteins. He devoted much of his professional career to helping the company achieve its modern position as a leader in the global marketplace. Under his leadership, American Proteins became a beacon of hope for many families in Forsyth County—offering employment to people across the region.
In 1970, Mr. Jones, joined by his brother Leon, became a co-owner of Lanierland Music Park. The duo, united by their passion for country music, transformed the venue into an iconic landmark that hosted such country music legends as George Jones, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash and Hank Williams Jr.

With an unwavering commitment to increasing the quality of life for Forsyth County residents, several lifelong friends joined Mr. Jones in developing one of the first public golf courses in the region. Opening its doors in 1992, Country Land Golf Course was founded with the sole mission of offering an affordable option to golf enthusiasts. With a never-ending thirst for entrepreneurism, Mr. Jones later constructed the largest commercial poultry farm in north Georgia.
Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Louise Martin Jones of Cumming; son and daughter- in-law, Allen and Sharon Dillard Jones; daughter and son- in- law, Linda and John Taylor; son, Wayne Jones; son, Gregory Jones; brother and sister- in-law Leon and Brenda Heard Jones; sister, Shirley Jones; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, in the McDonald and Son Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday, March 29 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Sawnee View Memorial Gardens.
