Forsyth Might Allow Breweries to Open

Why shouldn't Forsyth County entrepreneurs have the same opportunity to start a brewery as Alpharetta? The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners will consider setting up licensing regulations for brewers to allow a brewery to open.

The commissioners have the proposed amendment to the county's alcohol ordinance regarding brewers scheduled for a public hearing at their Thursday, June 6 meeting. The public will have a chance to comment on the proposal during the meeting, which will start at 5 p.m. in the administration building in downtown Cumming.

But don't expect to walk in and buy a six pack if the amendment is eventually approved and a brewery opens within the county. State law states, "Brewers shall only sell malt beverages to wholesalers and shall not sell malt beverages directly to retailers or end consumers." There is a provision for free samples on site, but that is restrictive and not required.
