Forsyth County Declares Thursday 'Day of Prayer'
A prayer meeting outside the Forsyth County Courthouse is planned for 10 a.m. Thursday.

CUMMING, GA -- Thursday has been declared a "Day of Prayer" in Forsyth County.
At their April 21 meeting, Forsyth County commissioners joined politicians from across the country in declaring May 5 a day for praying.
A National Day of Prayer was first established by the Continental Congress in 1775. In 1952, the U.S. Congress approved a resolution setting aside a day each year to recognize the tradition of prayer.

"The National Day of Prayer belongs to all Americans and is not sponsored or owned by any one group, and every American may observe the Day of Prayer in his or her own way," Forsyth County officials said in a news release.
In Cumming, Forsyth County will sponsor a prayer meeting at the county courthouse on Thursday, starting at 10 a.m.

On the national level, a National Day of Prayer event is set for Thursday in Washington D.C.
That event will run from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Cannon House Office Building on Capitol Hill. It will feature speeches and prayers by pastors and other religious leaders from across the country, as well as elected officials.
