Forsyth County Fire Department Welcomes Three New Engines

The Pierce fire engines will be deployed to fire stations 1, 10, and 12. Funding for the new vehicles came from the department's funds.

The Forsyth County Fire Department has replaced three older fire fighting vehicles with state of the art fire engines paid for by the department’s budget and reserve funds.

According to Forsyth County government, the three new Pierce fire engines will be deployed to Fire Station 1 in Downtown Cumming, Fire Station 10 in south Forsyth, and Fire Station 12 in north Forsyth. The three vehicles that are being replaced by the new engines will be sent to the department’s reserve fleet, and used when active vehicles are out of service for maintenance.

“These three new engines are important components of the Fire Department’s five-year plan,” Fire Chief Danny Bowman said in a statement. “They are critical pieces of equipment that will, without question, assist our firefighters as they perform their daily fire suppression and emergency response missions. They will also help boost departmental efficiency and enhance the safety of our personnel.”

Did you know that fire engines are different from fire trucks? Both vehicles are equipped to handle a special task related to fire fighting and rescuing people. Fire engines are used to pump water on fires, and are equipped with hoses, and tanks. Fire engines can carry small ladders firefighters use to access people trapped in windows that are slightly above the ground.

Fire trucks are the vehicles equipped with mounted hydraulic ladders that can reach several stories in the sky. Trucks come equipped with tools firefighters need to break down doors or walls, breathe in hazardous conditions, and safely locate and remove people and animal from fires.
