Forsyth County Invites Outside Educators to Sample Technology Initiative

The Oct. 27 event will showcase Mashburn Elementary and Piney Grove Middle School. Registration is now open and costs $25.

Forsyth County Schools is inviting up to 120 educators who work outside the county to learn more about the school system’s innovative and successful Bring Your Own Technology (BYOT) program through a series of school tours during the 2014-15 academic year.

School districts or companies that are interested in learning more about Forsyth County Schools’ BYOT program are encouraged to send representatives to learn about the program, but are asked to limit their retinue to 10 people. The maximum tour size for the fall session is set at 120 participants.

Registration for the fall session is open. Individual tickets cost $25.

According to Forsyth County Schools’ website, the first tour of the school year will be held on Monday, Oct. 27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The all-day session will begin at the Forsyth County Board of Education and Professional Development Center at 1120 Dahlonega Highway in Cumming.

The tour will drop in at Mashburn Elementary School between 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. While at Mashburn, the educators will get first-hand experience with the BYOT program, which allows students to bring in their own laptops, cell phones, and tablets and use them in the classroom in concert with special apps that enhance the learning experience.

Following the tour of Mashburn Elementary, the tour group will have a 15 minute lunch and discussion of BYOT. The tour will then arrive at Piney Grove Middle School at approximately 1 p.m. and will tour the facility and gain more experience with BYOT until 2:30 p.m. A question and answer session will then be held until 3 p.m.
