Forsyth County Schools Mulls Change to Meal Account Policy

Students in Cumming's middle schools and high schools will be allowed to charge one meal to their accounts if the change is accepted.

Forsyth County Schools is considering altering the district’s meal police to give middle and high school students a small reprieve on their overdrawn meal accounts.

According to the current meal policy, no student outside of elementary school is allowed to charge a meal to their account if their fund balance is too low to pay for the food. Students whose meal accounts are depleted get a complimentary carton of milk and a cheese sandwich, but cannot have their normal school lunch.

An amendment to the policy would allow students in middle school and high school to charge one meal, or $2.35, to their accounts. The grace period is meant to cover any possible delays in transfers to a student’s lunch account or errors in the account system, and would serve to remind forgetful students that their accounts need to be replenished immediately.
