Forsyth Deputy Shoots Man Holding Knife: Authorities

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into the shooting, from late Sunday night.

CUMMING, GA — A Forsyth County deputy shot a man who authorities say was threatening officers with a knife late Sunday night.

Deputies were called at 11:22 p.m. to the Shady Grove RV Park located at 5560 Shady Grove Rd. in Cumming. The call was for a person with a knife who was showing suicidal behavior.

When they arrived, the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office says, they were confronted by a man with a knife.

Inside of the RV, he began to threaten the deputies and "one of the deputies was forced to fire his agency issued sidearm, striking the subject," according to the sheriff's office.

Forsyth County Sheriff Ron Freeman has requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to independently review the shooting, as is typical n such cases.

The deputies involved have been placed on routine paid administrative leave during that investigation. The sheriff's office did not share information on the man's condition, or the identities of him and the officer involved.
